George Clooney protects Hawaiian soil

In the Descendants, father of two and husband to a horrible woman, Clooney plays Matt King a wealthy investor guy. Him and a bunch of other relatives have only one real asset remaining; a large piece of pristine land passed down to them from their distant Hawaiian ancestors.

More like 'The movie during which time stood still' HAHAHAHA. But despite this being a rotten tomato, and probably an insult to the original that I've not seen, I found it a perfectly acceptable way to kill an afternoon. More to the point it gave me something to write about.

The Tree of Life and Creatures of the Southern Wild - indie nature

The most obvious similarity between these films is their use of close up, shallow depth of field, nice contrast, indie-movie shots of nature. Mmmm grass head's bobbing in the summer breeze, indie gold, cue the sound of crickets chirpping, nicccce.

How is a depressed middle aged man like an orchid?

Not in many ways as you might have guessed and, as you will find out if you watch Adaptation.

I don't know why this didn't occur to me before because (at the risk of imitating Napoleon Dynamite) this is pretty much my favourite film of all time. Every time I watch it it yields new insight, its funny and weird and clever and tragic. Don't let Nicholas Cage's goggle-eyed face put you off, he is awesome in this movie, convincingly playing the lead and his twin brother.

Into the wild

After slacking off for months and not seeing or reading anything that I could write about, after wandering the allegorical dessert in search of blog quenching environmental themes, I finally saw into the wild.

Mudhole? Slimy? My home this is!

In the wake of the last preachy, square-peg-in-round-hole blog post here's a return to harmless nerd-dom.

Sneaking between genres like a metaphor hunting ninja, I will today look at the perception of the organic and natureness in the world of popular movies.
